TGR Learning Lab Activity Zone Returns to the Quicken Loans National

Calling all kids – it’s time to get excited! At this year’s Quicken Loans National, youngsters and their families will once again have a chance to take a break from the golf action and indulge themselves at the TGR Learning Lab Activity Zone. Free to all fans at the tournament, the learning lab tent will feature four unique activities, all connecting science, technology, learning and fun into one. Here’s a look at the featured activities.

3D Printing and Circuitry (“Light it Up”) – In this activity, kids will have the chance to create and bring home their own, unique flashlight while learning the basics of circuitry. Using only a coin battery, participants will be able to light their LED bulb to create a mini-flashlight. They can then connect it to a keyring and take it home with them. But there’s another element: the flashlights themselves are actually 3D-printed, making it an all-around fascinating activity that gives participants something to learn and commemorate their Quicken Loans National experience.

Tower Challenge – Visitors will face a challenge in this activity, as they’ll be tasked with building a freestanding structure on a single wooden cube foundation. The activity also requires the use of wooden cubes, craft sticks and plastic cups to attempt to build the tallest structure. The highest buildings will be measured and recorded throughout the day, and a winner will be announced daily at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. for a special prize!

Learning Via VR – Guests will be able to get hands-on with virtual reality (VR) and explore how it can be an engaging tool to support learning. Choosing from a variety of learning experiences – from exploring the ocean to learning about our solar system, to visiting a college campus – guests will see how VR can be used to transport you around the world, without ever leaving your backyard.

Digital Fabrication Experience by Fab Lab – This activity is the newest addition to the TGR Learning Lab Activity Zone, as youth will be able to interactively use laser cutters and Fab Lab’s CAD software to create a personalized, take-home ball marker! This will be done using Fab Lab’s actual digital fabrication equipment. It’s a unique way to combine 21st century technology with golf and a special way for visitors to remember their day at the Quicken Loans National.

On top of the TGR Learning Lab Activity Zone, many other activities will be available to youth at this year’s tournament. The Family Village will offer putt putt, face painting and other fun exercises. Additionally, there will be a youth golf exhibition on the driving range at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, giving young golf enthusiasts a chance to learn from a PGA TOUR Pro!

The TGR Learning Lab Activity Zone will be open from Wednesday, June 27 to Sunday, July 1.
